Team rankings when JV runs in varsity place

September 24, 2025 Updated September 24, 2025
By James Mills, Cross Country Ratings
For a myriad of reasons, a team may not run their top runners at a meet. Instead, their JV competes in the varsity spots. Sometimes this is designated in the team results (School JV), but more often than not it isn't. This could cause confusion to ranking committee members who see team results that don't reflect the true strength of a team. For this site's purposes, it has NO IMPACT on team rankings. Team rankings are derived by individual ratings. Those varsity members will maintain their ratings - and subsequent ranking - as long as they are competing at least once every two weeks.
